About This Spot

Mirabeau invites you into a quiet, thoughtfully curated world that captures the gentle rhythm of a Parisian neighborhood bakery, nestled right here in Rockville. From the moment you step inside its modest storefront on Fishers Lane, a calm sense of space and subtle sophistication greets you. The soft strains of classical music blend seamlessly with the warm hum of focused conversations and the occasional clink of coffee cups, creating a setting that feels both intimate and inviting — perfect for a morning pause or a quiet afternoon spent writing or reflecting.

Behind the counter, the artistry of a dedicated pâtissière who carries the lineage of refined French baking is evident in every creation that passes through the glass display. It feels less like a menu and more like a selection of carefully considered moments – whether it’s the tender crumb of a buttery croissant, the nuanced bitterness of a cold brew, or the comforting combination of sweet and savory tucked into a sandwich. There is a visible balance here between classic techniques and approachable flavors that speaks to years of experience and a true passion for craft.

Seating is intimate rather than sprawling, encouraging unhurried visits where you can really savor the details — the subtle layers of a creme brulee donut, the unexpected joy of a brie, apple & bacon croissant sandwich, or the quiet morning ritual of a matcha latte warmed just right. The space feels unpretentious yet thoughtfully designed, reflecting the owner’s deep roots in fine culinary training and a desire to create a genuine, human scale experience rather than a bustling café scene.

Mirabeau’s charm lies in this intersection of artful baking, steady-paced ambiance, and a welcoming presence that sees you as more than just a customer. It’s a place where the familiar comforts of home and the small pleasures of French-inspired treats come together, inviting a slow, contented moment in an otherwise busy day. Whether you’re dropping by for your daily coffee or lingering over a weekend pastry, Mirabeau offers a quietly joyful discovery for those who appreciate the subtle pleasures of good food and thoughtful surroundings.

The owner is a Pâtissière (pastry chef) who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), one of the top culinary schools in the US. We’ve been friends since middle school. She’s incredibly smart and talented in many ways, especially artistically. When she first opened her Bakery Café in Redondo Beach, California, seven years ago, it was so popular in the area, and I often visited to try her pastries. However, about five years ago, she sold that place, moved to Maryland, and opened Mirabeau here in Rockville. It’s been a long time since I‘ve had her pastries, and I’m so happy to have tasted such delicious pastries again. I’m truly touched. Rockville, Maryland, is a special place because of Mirabeau. Not just because we’re friends, but I highly recommend Mirabeau‘s pastries! Come try their diverse and delicious pastries here at Mirabeau!

Cute little cafe with solid coffee. I got the nut latte and it was pretty good. Perfectly creamy and sweet. My wife’s Brie apple bacon croissant sandwich was also delicious, right amount of crunchiness and softness. Def need to come back.

Staff and location are very nice. You can sit and work while music is decent. Staff is preparing food and beverages very quietly and music is very classical. Perfect for work. Seating is limited but even on a Saturday morning, only a few customers decided to stay here and finding a spot in the window was easy. Prices are what you would expect in our beloved area. It's not overpriced for our standards in the DMV. It's well managed. Drinks will be served in one way paper cups no matter you stay there or you are on the run. Sandwiches are delicious but tend to be a bit pricy given that they lack complexion. However, the ingredients used for their sandwiches seem to have high quality and work perfectly together in their sandwiches. The less is in there, the more the quality of each individual ingredient can be appreciated. It's good and worth the money.

Mirabeau Bakery & Cafe is one of those rare places that actually lives up to expectations. I stopped in by accident one Saturday morning, and it turned out to be a great find. The space feels like a small Parisian bakery dropped into the neighborhood. The coffee is excellent, the pastries are done right, the croissants, pain au chocolat, and other French classics are not overly sweet or flashy, just well made. There’s a calm, unhurried atmosphere that makes it easy to enjoy a coffee and pastry before the day gets busy. A simple, reliable spot when you want something authentic, without the usual gimmicks.

Absolutely delicious place! I had the turkey on ciabatta sandwich and the Parmesan cheesecake with figs. Both outstanding! Never had a savory cheesecake before and I will definitely be back for more! They were also so friendly and made my sandwich super fast

I can see why people want to keep this little spot a secret. Tucked away on a side street this unassuming coffee shop is a real gem. I got a caramel latte and one of the creme donuts and the coffee impressed me at the first sip. Really smooth, not bitter and perfect sweetness. The donut was a perfect accompaniment. Service was attentive and quick. I'll definitely be back.

Hesitant to review here because it feels like a well kept secret Quiet and excellent coffee shop on the “other side” of the Twinbrook metro area with incredible pastries (quality of the croissant dough is the best in Rockville hands down). We regularly get the ham and cheese twist and the lunch sandwiches are great too. Coffee is excellent as well - great iced lattes in particular! The staff is incredibly sweet and efficient and there is seating inside. You can park for free at the Garage and certain hours at the metro lot.
